One of the highlights of my career and humanitarian work is visiting injured soldiers at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. It's been something I've wanted to do since the war began and continues to be such a rewarding experience for me. Admittedly, it's tough to see so many of these young men (and one woman--HEY SUE!) having to endure such critical injuries, but I am consistently inspired by their courageous spirits. They have enormous support there from all of their military brothers and sisters at every rank, which is great to see, and the PT staff is wonderful as well. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting the Chief Advisor to the Army under the 4-Star Generals; 13th Sergeant Major Kenneth O. Preston, who is like a rock star among the military. Thank you, Sir, for giving me your personal medal of honor--it was quite an unexpected, moving and validating gesture before even entering the front door!

The original invite to Walter Reed came through a true hero; retired fire Captain John Vigiano of the NYC Fire Dept., who lost two sons in 911. Coincidentally, Dick Wolf who produces Law and Order, also produced the 2002 Oscar winning documentary short "Twin Towers" about Mr.Vigiano's sons; firefighter John Vigiano and NYPD Emergency Service Unit detective Joseph Vigiano. http://www.vigiano.com
I also met Army Chaplain John Kallerson who's been an integral part of the volunteer department at Walter Reed. He graciously gave me the Walter Reed Medal of Strength and Courage, something that's given to all the wounded soldiers. And on my last visit, I was incredibly lucky enough to be on Ward 57 with talented actor and devoted troop supporter, Gary Sinise.
